  • Karnataka Board is otherwise referred to as Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board.
  • The board was established in 1966.
  • KSEEB is the short name of the board and it has been conducting SSLC and other exams
  • This board is responsible for regulating and supervising the system of secondary education in the state of Karnataka.
  • KSEEB also governs different activities that encompass devising the courses of study, providing support for all secondary educational institutions under its jurisdiction.
  • The board is also responsible for granting recognition to schools, conducting examinations, and prescribing syllabus for the schools under its jurisdiction.
  • The board functions through its four regional offices in the state.
  • The divisional offices are located in Bangalore, Gulbarga, Belgaum, and Mysore.

  • The Karnataka Board is holding the responsibility of conducting examination for class X for the students in the schools functioning under this board.
  • Class X examination is called as SSLC examination.
  • For the academic year ending 2017, the examination was conducted from the 30th of March to the 13th of April 2017.
  • The examination was conducted in nearly 2770 centres in the state.  
  • The papers in Class X under KSEEB are as follows:
    • First Language – Kannada/ English/ Hindi/ Sanskrit/ Tamil/Urdu/ Marathi/Telugu
    • Second language – English/Kannada
    • Third language – Konkani/Urdu/Arabic/Sanskrit/Hindi/English/Kannada
    • Mathematics – Urdu/Marathi/Tamil/Telugu/Hindi/Kannada/English version
    • Science – Marathi/Tamil/Telugu/Hindi Version
    • Social Science - Urdu/Marathi/Tamil/Telugu/Hindi/Kannada/English version
    • Special subjects – Carnatic/Hindustani Music (Kannada Version)/Carnatic/Hindustani Music (English version)/Political Science (Kannada Version)/ Political Science (English Version)/Sociology (Kannada Version)/ Sociology (English Version)
  • After completion of class X, which is the final year of the school education in the state, students will have to move to Pre-university.
  • Pre-university in this state is equivalent to class XI and XII in other states in India.
  • These two classes are not under the Karnataka Board, but they are under the Department of Pre-University Education. This department functions under the Department of Primary and Secondary education.
  • Every year, nearly 10 lakh students enrol in the two-year pre-university courses after completion of class X under Karnataka Board.
  • The courses offered by the pre-university department in the state are under three main categories and they are humanities or arts, science, and commerce.
