DETAILS OF UP BOARD 2018: ELIGIBILITY, RESULT

  • The Uttar Pradesh Board of school education is referred to as Board of High School and Intermediate Education Uttar Pradesh.
  • The short form used to denote this board is UP Board.
  • The board came into existence in the year 1921.
  • The establishment happened in Allahabad through an Act of the United Provinces Legislative Council.
  • The first board examination in that state was conducted by the board in the year 1923.
  • The board holds the pride of being the early introducers of 10+2 system of examination in India.
  • It conducts the first public examination for students after 10 years of education called as High School Education.
  • Then, after 10+2 stage, another board examination is conducted called as Intermediate Examination.
  • Before 1923, these two examinations in the state were conducted by the University of Allahabad.
  • These board examinations for class X and Class XII are conducted once in a year.
  • Also, these examinations are conducted all over the state of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The board conducts these tests and prepares the results for more than 32 lakh students
  • In the state, a few secondary schools function under the ICSE board and CBSE Board. But, most of the secondary schools in the state seek recognition from the state board.
  • There are more than 9000 secondary schools functioning with the recognition of the UP Board.
  • The examination fee for regular students in class X and intermediate is Rs.150 and Rs.300 respectively.
  • The examination fee for private candidates in class X and intermediate is Rs.500 and Rs.600 respectively.
  • Not just to prepare the curriculum for all classes in the state board, but this board functions with the objective of maintenance of accuracy and dependability in the evaluation of test papers of candidates in Class X and XII.
  • Her objective is also to make the required arrangements for preparation and publication of textbooks for intermediate and high school.

Examinations:

  • The Uttar Pradesh board conducts the following board examinations
    • High School examination for Class X
    • Intermediate Examination for class XII

Class X:

  • Class X examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Board is referred to as High School examination.
  • Earlier, similar to that of higher secondary in other boards, there were different streams for high school like commerce, technical education, agriculture, fine arts, science, arts, etc.
  • But, as the board considered the requirement of a common curriculum up to class X, a revision was made to the curriculum from the year 2000.
  • In the present curriculum, there is no choice of streams for class X. But, there are six compulsory subjects they are:
    • State language (i.e.) Hindi
    • One other language of student’s choice
    • Social Science
    • Science
    • Mathematics
    • Any one subject from moral, physical and socially useful productive and social work education.
  • For social work there is not public evaluation, but internal evaluation is done at the school level.

Class XII:

  • As far as intermediate is concerned, there are 5 subjects.
  • One subject of these 5, which is Hindi, is a compulsory paper and the other four are of the choice of candidates depending on the group they choose for their intermediate education.
  • The examination for class XII or intermediate is conducted in two sessions by the board.
  • The morning session exams start at 7:30 am and ends at 10:45 am. The afternoon session starts at 2:00 pm and ends at 5:15 pm.
  • Candidates can choose either arts, science or commerce stream as per their area of interest.
  • There are some papers like language papers that are common for all groups apart from special papers for each group.
  • The common paper Hindi is compulsory for all groups. Students can choose the other four papers on the basis of the group they choose.
